Last Saturday, my boyfriend and I took a quick drive down to Irvine, CA. Cars and Coffee, Irvine is one of the most popular spots for automotive enthusiasts in Southern California. Anyone who knows Doug, knows his passion for everything automotive and when he is not finishing up his business degree or working at an automotive after-market parts company, he writes the blog The Driven Lifestyle (Facebook page). So being that this was his first weekend not working Saturdays this entire semester, he was eager to wake up at the crack of dawn and drive out before the sun came up to catch the cars pulling in.
We were truly eager to try out our new Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens. This lens is very affordable and is loved by many DSLR users for its short telephoto portrait capability. And boy does it not disappoint! After just creating my blog a few months ago, I’ve noticed that the best pictures are taken in the ‘golden hour’ or between 3-5:00pm and have a bokeh style many fashion and automotive photographers use. Creating ‘bokeh’ means making the focused object crisp and clear and the background a blurred haze, thus enhancing and defining the main object. This lens is perfect for allowing details of the automobiles or fashion pieces we shoot come to life and stand out more, serving as a multi purpose use for both blogs.
My all time favorite car is the Porsche Speedster, which unfortunately wasn’t shown at the event. Much similar in body to the Austin Healey above, I adore what I refer to as a ‘Minnie Mouse’ car because of its compact frame and bright colors. One day with the help of Doug, I hope to build a kit car of my own. I would willingly trade in my Mazda for a cherry red Speedster any day;)
I had such a great morning. Being around people who share the same passion as Doug and seeing him so happy is one thing I’ll always take advantage of.
